The Temple of Zeus at Olympia is the most important place of worship created by the Greeks due to Zeus being the king of the gods. Essentially the most powerful Grek/Roman deity. His statue was created by a renowned architect at the time named Phidias. When Caligula came to power, he ordered that the statue be moved to Rome, and the head to be replaced with his own. This never ended up happening due to Caligula being killed before the order was official. No one knows the fate of the statue, but most believe that it was raided of all its precious gems, gold, ivory, and more. The emperor of Constantinople Theodosius banned paginsm, and the Olympic games sometime around. Leaving the statue of Zeus in the shadows 500AD.
